Bluff Road Reservoir Aeration and Spray line Upgrade

Project Name: Bluff Road Reservoir Aeration and Spray line Upgrade

Contract value: $300,000

Duration: 4 months

Project Overview

BDR Stainless was awarded the contract to deliver the civil, mechanical, and structural supply and installation scope for a new aeration and spray line system at an existing potable water reservoir within the Logan Shire.

Scope of Works Included:

  • Construction of three new FRP civil support plinths
  • Installation of a free-issued blower unit
  • Design, fabrication, and installation of the following components:
    • Secure, meshed blower and water pump cages
    • DN600 aeration pipework from the blower unit to the reservoir roof vent, including all associated pipe supports
    • Connection to existing underground outlet pipework to provide water supply to a spray line servicing three individual spray nozzles
    • Roof-mounted walkway for safe maintenance access

This project allowed BDR Stainless to demonstrate its capability to successfully manage and deliver multi-disciplinary Design and Construct (D&C) projects, showcasing its integrated approach across civil, mechanical, and structural disciplines.

Challenges:

The project presented several challenges, particularly due to the reservoir remaining live throughout the installation. As the reservoir supplies potable water directly to residential users, strict planning and adherence to safety protocols were essential to maintain compliance with water quality standards.

The civil scope was impacted by inaccurate “as-constructed” drawings, which resulted in unforeseen underground obstructions. These were managed through rapid decision-making in consultation with the client, ensuring the original design intent and critical milestones were maintained.

Installation works from ground level to the reservoir roof required careful planning around restricted access and the presence of live assets. These challenges were addressed through detailed pre-planning and the use of experienced trade personnel to safely execute works in complex conditions.

BDR also implemented innovative techniques to safely cut into the live reservoir roof sheeting without the risk of foreign material entering the water supply, preserving water integrity throughout the project.

The installation was carried out in close proximity to residential areas, requiring proactive communication and community engagement to minimise disruptions and ensure the surrounding environment and residents were not adversely impacted.
